Question: Please help! I need as many people I can get to help.? ?

We had a little experiment in school on Friday for science. We were to get at least 10 people to write a story using certain words. Tomorrow, we will turn in those ‘collected’ stories. Our teacher will rate these stories to test if a kid’s age affects their writing level. So when you finish writing the story, I would like it if you could put your age at the bottom. Thanks!

Words that must be used (choose any 30):
flame
specimen
observatory
boutique
cactus
curriculum
oases
debris
innocent
dramatic
reservoir
boulevard
portrait
vague
antique
massage
bouquet
amateur
petite
elementary
cemetery
forgery
legendary
primary
bravery
theory
literary
mystery
description
spectacle
eruption
impede
suffice
rescue
fume
fireproof
nuclei
coup
naive
brilliant
aspect
rupture
metric
grave
aspect
ignite
revise
Thanks! As long as you are willing to help, I won’t judge.

Answer: The cemetery was quite and seemed like a place full of mystery and legendary pasts. A portrait of a young girl on a nearby grave caught my attention and I suddenly stopped with the specimen of roses in my hand and read the small description. It was vague and I literally could not picture who the young girl was. All I read was Cecilia Adams August 1st 1965- September 12th 1980. A single tear fell down my face and at that very moment I felt petite; naïve and weak in a way. I knew nothing but a name and a birth date and yet I felt sad for her. The only theory I had of this young girl was that she was in a far off oases, almost like a reservoir, where the walls were fireproof, a place where she would need no rescue, and nothing could harm her anymore. I felt an eruption inside of me all of the sudden like something had begun to ignite. The smile faded from my face and tears erupted. In a sense I felt I was being too dramatic at the moment and I continued to stare down at the innocent grave. I reached down and placed the bouquet of roses I had brought for my grandmother onto Cecilia’s grave. I smiled at the sight of an antique ballerina figurine placed next to the debris of old flowers. I felt suffice at that moment and a bit of bravery as well. I never knew I was capable of such feelings towards a stranger. I took my primary gaze from the grave and to the boulevard sigh up ahead. I knew at that moment that I could coup through my own loss, for I believed that my own grandmother was in her own elementary world where she felt free and happy once again. As I left the graveyard, Cecilia Adams grave stood out like a spectacle covered in the fume of the flowers I had just placed. The flame of sadness that I had felt earlier was gone and replaced with the feeling of love towards those who we have lost. I felt as though my curriculum of life had changed at that point and I in fact learned that life is indeed precious, but the love you feel towards others is what makes it so precious.

Ok I’m 19… And this story makes like NO sense, but I tried.. And I think I did 31 of the words.

Science Experiments Air Pollution

Question: I need help on my science fair project.?

I already have a topic and already started the experiment, but I need a little help with writing my abstract and most of the other writing parts. I am comparing the amount of air particles in an open environment to a closed one. { I live in AZ so I am comparing if a dusty open field would have more air particles than a place with more trees and plants around.}
They are both near roads that arent too busy and probably dont get much pollution, but other things like dust, dirt , pollen, and seeds would affect those areas.
I could really use some advice, because its due on the 14th and all i need to do is the writing.

Answer: You are doing fine. You managed to convey to me what your project is about, so you already know how to communicate.

It is very useful to see how articles and descriptions are written and to learn some of the teminology that is used in your topic. I am linking you here to an article written about the same topic that you are examining. As a scientist/engineer I find the language in the article to be a little “journalistic”, but it is basically OK.

Perhaps it would be useful for you to print out the article and go through and underline all the technical terms. For example, you will find the following terms on the first page:

“particulate matter”
“airborne dust”

So the terminology for your “air particles” is more correctly expressed as “particulate matter” or “airborne dust”.

This is often the best way to learn how to do something – to read what is “out there” and to understand it. The objective of a science fair project is to teach you, and to help you to teach others. It is very frustrating when you have a hard time communicating, and nobody else can really do it for you. You learn how to communicate by absorbing the terminology into your own language “tool box”, then arranging your thoughts clearly so that others can understand.

You will do just fine. There is great joy in learning how to organize your thoughts clearly enough to express them to others. That is one of the things that makes a good scientist, and you are already on your way.

I was a science fair judge at one point. It was always terribly obvious when students were presenting words, thoughts and experiments that belonged to their parents or friends instead of themselves. I used to love the kids who had enough confidence and initiative to plunge forward and make their own mistakes and discoveries. Go for it!

Science Experiment Preschool

Question: Is this a good science fair topic? I want to involve children?

Alright. I can’t believe that its the first week of school and I have to have 3 Science Fair Ideas by friday. I am in 9th grade so I need a high school level project. My mom is the owner/director of a preschool. So I wanted to use children in my experiment. (Yes, I know I have to get the human subject forms and everything) I was thinking about doing how does food affect memory. And feed them like cheetos one day and test them and then blueberries (a brain boosting food) the next day and test them. Is this a good topic? If you have any other ideas please let me know. I would like to avoid doing something with color because the teacher used that as an example. You tweak my experiment or even completely change it. I would like to use humans.

Thanks for the help! and sorry if it was long(:

Answer: great idea but experiment with diferent kinds of foods not just chetos and blue berrys try tomatos or carrots too as these have some intresting propertys tht may come into play but use your reserch and imagination and make shure to have a controll of students that havent eaten annything yet i would do at least 5 foods plus a controll
