Science Experiments Slime

Question: physics vday dorky!?

ok….my bf and i met in physics lab and had physics 1 & 2 together and were lab partners where we developed a great friendship…we’re both science majors and really dorky at heart. anyway, i figured the best gift for valentines day would be one that includes a physics experiement or something (yea, dorky, i know!) i dont even know if this is at all possible! but i figured it would be super cute to incorporate a simple physics experiment for v-day…like, i know how to make slime/gack and stuff like that and i work for the physics dept at school and have access to everything i could ever need. but if theres a way to make a heart or do something physics-y and cool to a picture or make something artistic somehow, please let me know! i dont know how realistic this request is, but if you are dorky enough to have an idea, please share!

Answer: haha – I love it! I’m a huge dork…a bit more in a linguistics/psychology type of way, but I do love physics. What about something with…IDK…ok, yeah I have no idea. The only thing I can think of is building a series of simple machines and moving a ball or something that ends with a message/love note! Ha! That’s the first thing that came to mind.

Lame, I know – but I do wish you the best of luck!

Science Experiments Kindergarten

Question: educational activities?

I have 2 kids, one is going into kindergarten and the other is going into 3rd grade. What are some good educational games/activities we can do over summer break? We’ve been to museums and the zoo, so what else is there? Any fun/easy Science Experiments?
Thanks in advance. =)
we’ve done cookies, cupcakes and green eggs and ham. anything else? there must be something.

Answer: Maybe you guys can have these things called theme days. Theme days is when you pick a theme for the day and stick to it. Maybe you want to have library day, then you can go to an actual library, pick out a book, and have them pick out their own book.

You might also want to have these things called stations. There is like 4 stations. One station involves something fun from the kitchen that they can make or bake themselves. The second station involves something to do with arts and crafts. The third station involves something that has to do with school work, to keep their minds active from their school break. One worksheet for the kindergartner and one for the 3rd grader. The fourth and last station is the play station. They can have their toys there, waiting to be played with.

Something else that you might want to try is making home made play dough together. What you will need is flour, oil, salt. Take the flour and pour some into a bowl. Mix with about 3 tablespoons of oil. Mix in more oil if needed. Add 1/2 teaspoon of salt to help the mix stick together better. You’re done!

Hope it’s all you need. Glad to help. Hope you have a great summer!

Chemistry Experiment For Kids

chemistry experiment for kids
Question: I’m looking for a chemistry experiment for homeschooling?

I would like to do the crystallization of minerals from a super-saturated liquid. But I just want to use household items or easily obtainable items, to show my kid the principal can be duplicated from the home. Any ideas?

Answer: Ben… depends to some extent on the level at which you’re trying to teach your kid. The idea of a mineral covers a lot of ground, so does the idea of crystallizing from a supersaturated solution. What exacltly are you trying to demostrate? Putting a piece of string into a cooling solution of sugar in a jar will result in formation of nice rock-candy crystals, and that demonstrates the idea of crystallization from a saturated solution. Demonstrating the phenomenon of crystallzation from a truly super-saturated solution means that you’ll probably have to get your hands on a chemical like sodium acetate (see, for example: http://quiz2.chem.arizona.edu/preproom/Demo%20Files/crystallization_from_solution.htm).

Hope some of that helps….
