Science Experiment Candy

Question: When making a sugar crystal does the sugar turn out to be the color of the candy or you need to food color it?
I am doing a science experiment with my sister about making a sugar crystal and need help.
Answer: It depends on what type of color you want it. When sugar is heated, it becomes transparent, sometimes with amber or brown undertones, depending on what type of sugar you use. Heating it more will result in a darker color.
To achieve other colors like blue, red, or green, you really would need food coloring.

Question: How can I expand my science fair project idea? Real life application needed…?
For the science fair my partner and I made flute headjoints out of various materials. We were planning on blowing through them and using sound frequency wave analysis software to see how many overtones were present in the sounds. Then based on that we would come to a conclusion about the different metals and how they affect the vibrating column of air inside the flute. I’m starting to think this isn’t enough and I’d like to connect the project with a real life application. Does anyone know of a practical usage of vibrating columns of air in tubes (one that is comparable to our experiment)?
Answer: The animal or human ear / ear drum!… On a different note (pardon the pun) You could also look into hypersonic sound (which is more directional) then you can aim two non-audible signals at slightly different kHz say 50kHz signals and another at 60KHz.. if they are phased correctly they should yield a 10KHz hear able sound where the two non audible sounds are in the same location. Does that sound like fun?

Science Experiment Outline

Question: HELP With Grade 8 SCIENCE PROJECT!! (not asking for topics)?
I am doing my science project on zoology; HOW LONG IT TAKES FOR A PERSON TO REACT TO A FALLING OBJECT. in other words reflexes.
Do you know any good websites that would help me with getting information and experiment ideas on this topic. I don’t want to cover everything on reflexes just a little outline on the topic.
If there are any comments or ideas, they would be rlly appreciated
thanks!.
lol, i know it may get hard but science is my favourite subject i get 100% on it
so im up for the challenge, err some what lol
Answer: This is a really hard project for an 8th grader. Maybe you could change it to reflexes in the body? For example the knee-jerk reflex or the corneal blink reflex. You could research the mechanism and try it on yourself.
~edit~
I know you’re probably good at science and want a challenge, but what you’re trying to measure is something you usually need special equipment for and a fair understanding of calculus, physics and neurobiology. Human reaction can be milliseconds long. If you only had a stopwatch there would be a human reaction measurement to the falling object and human reaction from seeing the person react to pressing the stopwatch. It’s just very complicated and you might risk getting a lower grade for something you worked very hard on. The two projects I suggested are challenging for your age too.. and something people don’t usually do. But they are doable.
I wish you the best on your project
