Science Experiment Oil And Water

Question: Science Experiment Help!! DESPERATE!! PLEASE!!?

Hi,
My science teacher sent us home with a experiment to look up on the internet. I have tried to search everywhere but I cannot find anything! :(

I want to know;
How can I crush a 4L Olive Oil tin using only Hot Water and Ice and/or Ice cold water. I thought that you could use the particle model but condense the particles inside, into a small group, causing the tin to move into the centre of the solid.

I am in serious help as I need an answer for tommorow!

Thank you so much if you are able to help. Even a website where i could find an answer would be great. :)

Answer: It’s not as easy as the other answers suggest.

Basically you have to draw a partial vacuum inside. Prepare an ice water bath large enough to submerge the tin. Now you need to fill the inside with steam, which you can do by putting a small amount of water inside and getting it to boil, which you can do by putting it over a stove burner set on low.

Wear gloves. When the last of the water inside has boiled away, quickly put the top back on and tighten it. Now dump the container in the ice water and submerge it.

The cold causes the steam inside to condense back to liquid water, creating the partial vacuum inside, which causes the air Pressure to crush the can.
