Science Experiments Explosions

Question: Science experiment – I gotta tell it again.?
3 scientists decide to see what would happen if they corked a cow’s butt. After a few months, the cow had grown to a pretty good size and they decided to end the experiment – but no one wanted to pull the plug out. So they train a monkey to use a cork screw and on the day of the un-corking, the 3 scientists situate themselves at 100 yards away, 50 yards away, and 10 yards away. TV cameras were running, photos being taken and the scientists ready; the monkey approached the cow, screwed the corkscrew in, and pulled it out.
Of course crap went flying everywhere, and after the initial explosion, reporters interviewed the scientists. They asked the one at 100 yards away what he saw. He said, “All I saw was crap flying!”. They asked the one at 50 yards and he said, “All I saw was crap flying!”. They asked the one at 10 yards away what he saw, and he said, “All I saw was that poor little monkey trying to push the cork back in!”

Science Experiment Slime

Question: science help?
homer notices that his shower is covered in a strange green slime. His friend Barney tells him that coconut juice will get rid of the green slime. Homer decides to check this out by spraying half of the shower with coconut juice. He sprays the other half of the shower with water. After 3 days of *treatment* there is no change in the appearance of the green slime on either side of the shower.
1.what was Homer’s initial observation?
2. write a hypothesis “if..then” statement for Homer’s experiment?
3.identify the dependent variable
4. what is the independent variable in Homer’s experiment?
5.should Homer reject or accept his hypothesis based on his results?
Answer: 1) the shower is covered with slime
2) if coconut juice is a solvent for the slime, then it should remove it better than water
(zero hypothesis: there is no difference between water and coconut juice for cleaning slime in a shower)
3) the amount of slime in the shower
4) the solvent and the amount of it used
5) He should reject the hypothesis which is equivalent to accepting the zero (no difference) hypothesis.
Good luck,

Science Experiments Online For Kids

Question: Boiling Point of Different Liquids?
Does anybody know of a list published somewhere online (perhaps the results of some kids science fair project) which lists the boiling points of several random household liquids.
I’m trying to experiment with the concept of “deep-frying” in substances that are not oil (for health as well as trying new flavors). As I’ve read, the reason oil works so well is because it gets hotter before it boils and therefore cooks the food evenly and quickly. I thought about things like whole milk and apple sauce.
Adding salt or sugar to water makes the boiling point rise by about 1 degree so its really not THAT much of a help.
Thanks in advance!
Answer: Here is one site: http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/boiling-points-fluids-gases-d_155.html
The problem with milk and apple source are that they are water-based. The temperature for boiling will not be too different from that of water’s and the resulting action will be boiling the food instead of frying it. On the other hand, boiling in such different environments is a common cooking method to enhance the taste.
