1.) In a similar experiment, a student used 1.50g of manganese to react with excess fluorine to form manganese fluoride. If 4.09g of manganese fluoride is formed, what is the empirical formula of that compound?
2.) The decomposition of 5.00g of vanadium sulfide produced 1.94g of vanadium. What is the empirical formula of that compound?
3.) A compound is found by analysis contain 81.82% carbon and the rest hydrogen. What is the empirical formula?

Answer: 1.) In a similar experiment, a student used 1.50g of manganese to react with excess fluorine to form manganese fluoride. If 4.09g of manganese fluoride is formed, what is the empirical formula of that compound?

mass of manganeese =1.5g
mass of fluorine=2.59g
moles of Mn=1.5/55=0.027
mass of F=2.59/19=0.136
ratio of F:Mn=0.027:0.136 =1:5

empirical formula=MnF₅

2.) The decomposition of 5.00g of vanadium sulfide produced 1.94g of vanadium. What is the empirical formula of that compound?

total mass =5.00g
mass of V=1.94g
mass of S=5-1.94=3.06g

moles of V=0.03808 {calculated by n=m/M}
moles of S=0.09544

ratio of V:S=0.03808:0.09544=1:2

empirical formula =VS₂

3.) A compound is found by analysis contain 81.82% carbon and the rest hydrogen. What is the empirical formula?
