Answer: It’s hard to tell!
What is the Na2S2O3 reacting with; it’s not the HCl; that’s probably only the pH determinant or the catalyst. The Na2S2O3 requires something to change it to (the usual) Na2S4O6 (sodium tetrathionate).

honeschooling my 10 year old i am having trouble finding adequate and free ideas of science exeriments and projects in other subjects. Is there not a site that is accessible to homeschoolers and parents that offers such information?

Answer: The local library has several books on Science Experiments and science projects (like you would do for a science fair.) If you can’t find any online resources for your experiments, I would make a trip to the library.
